PAS kinase deficiency reduces aging effects in mice

class="figure-viewer-img"

Figure 5. Effects of aging and PASK deficiency on the expression and activity of antioxidant enzymes in liver. Real-time PCR was used to analyze the expression of Cat (A), Cu/ZnSod (B), Gpx1 (C) and MnSod (D) mRNA levels. The results were measured in the livers of non-fasted (NON-FASTED) and 24-h fasted (FASTED) young (3-5 months) and aged (18-20 months) wild-type (WT) and PASK-deficient (Pask-/-) mice. The mRNA levels of different genes were normalized by the mRNA of β-actin used as housekeeping gene. MnSOD activity in liver homogenates (E). Bar graphs in A-E represent the means ± SEM, the values obtained in each condition of 3-5 months was taken as 100; n = 4-5 animals per condition. $ P < 0.05, $$ P < 0.01, $$$ P < 0.001 3-5 months vs. 18-20 months; * P < 0.05, ** P < 0.01 WT vs. Pask-/-; # P < 0.05, non-fasted vs. fasted.
