Dual roles of WISP2 in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma: implications of the fibroblast infiltration into the tumor microenvironment

(A) Decreased fibroblast infiltration into HCC tissue was related to the downregulation of HMGB1 in HCC in the presence of low expression of WISP2. Under these conditions, HCC exhibited a restrained state. (B) Increased number of fibroblasts in HCC tissue was related to the upregulation of HMGB1 induced by WISP2. Under these conditions, HCC exhibited a proliferative state.
